“Choose a job that you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.”
~Confucius
It is true that people perform best when they do what they love. But there’s a path to follow before reaching your ultimate destination. Sometimes that path is crooked with a few potholes along the way.
I’ve worked with countless unemployed and underemployed individuals ranging from those who lacked basic skills with little to no experience to high level professionals at the top of their game. Some high paid executives are unhappy in the environment in which they work while many entry level workers are content even while earning minimum wage. Regardless of where you are in your career it can be a challenge when you’re faced with unemployment. I’ve helped job seekers navigate through economic downturns and I’ve assisted them with their journey through changing technology. I can help you too.
The majority of my career has been spent working with clients in Silicon Valley of the San Francisco Bay Area not far from where I was born and raised in the East Bay city of San Leandro. My own career journey began first with raising my three children who are now grown and have careers and families of their own, (my proudest achievement). I started working with the EDD (Employment Development Department of California) in Fremont, California while all three were still in grade school. My tenure with the department spanned more than 18 years.
I possess a strong background in California unemployment insurance law and have been a job developer, business services representative and employment specialist in Alameda and El Dorado Counties. I’ve been a teacher and mentor to special education students as well. At South Tahoe High School I trained special education students the art of job search, résumé writing and selling yourself to a potential employer. My training background includes duties as an out-stationed trainer for the State of California where I traveled across the state to train in-house employees on a variety of subjects. Later, I was assigned to be training manager for the EDD Adjudication Center in San Francisco where I managed a staff of adjudicators and trained the adjudication trainers. I earned my Human Resource Management Certificate with distinction from the University of California at Berkeley along the way.
Currently, in the spirit of reinvention I am a freelance columnist. My articles have appeared in the Tahoe Daily Tribune, Sierra Sun, Tahoe Bonanza, Lake Tahoe Action as well as in the Desert Sun in Palm Springs. I live half time in South Lake Tahoe and half time in Palm Desert, California with my husband Ralph and our dogs, Golden Retriever Elsa and Little Brother, an Airedale Terrier.
In closing I’d like to say that my experiences with the unemployed has left a profound impression on me. My clients have been my teachers and mentors. They’ve taught me about humility, perseverance and showed me the rewards and power of being resilient. They've demonstrated the importance of lending a helping hand even when you need one yourself. I would like to pay it forward and help you with your job search. Email me today for a consulation of your needs.
